Non-Community Water Well Program
This program issues permits to drill private, semi-private, and non-community wells. Health Inspectors also witness the drilling of these water wells and the sealing of these water wells when they are permanently removed from service. This program functions throughout all of Cook County. Non-community water wells serve businesses, schools and similar facilities that serve 25 or more non-transient individuals daily for 60 days of the year and have at least 15 service connections. Non-community water wells are sampled yearly by the Health Department and surveys are performed at a frequency set by the State Health Department. It is suggested that the homeowner arrange to have their own water sampled for presence of bacteria and nitrates above 10 p.p.m. on a yearly basis.
