Food Program for Unincorporated Areas

Licenses and inspections are required for food establishments located in unincorporated areas of the county, including but not limited to, restaurants, taverns, package liquor stores, day care centers, and temporary retail food establishments. Plans for all new or remodeled food establishments must be submitted for review and approval by the department prior to the commencement of remodeling or construction. Intergovernmental Retail Food Agreement Program

The Intergovernmental Agreement Program is a contractual arrangement between the Cook County Department of Public Health and municipalities within the county, to provide food inspection services for retail food establishments. This includes, but is not limited to, convenient retail stores, day care centers, gas stations, grocery stores, hotels, hospitals, nursing homes, package liquor stores, restaurants, taverns and schools. The Department investigates foodborne illnesses, monitors consumer complaints, and conducts food inspections, consultations and plan reviews.

There are currently 35 municipalities that participate in this program. For complaints in municipalities not listed below, please contact the local governing authority.
