Our Approach

The Cook County Department of Public Health takes a network approach to protecting and promoting health. As one of seven operating units of the Cook County Health and Hospitals System, we bring health care to the diverse communities of Cook County. CCDPH is part of the System’s network of three hospitals, an ambulatory and community health network of health centers, a correctional health care facility and an outpatient infectious disease center.

CCDPH provides clinical services around communicable diseases, and reproductive and oral health. We work to prevent the spread of over 70 reportable communicable diseases and enforce Cook County and Illinois state environmental health laws.

We are one of the few sources with information about the priority health needs in each community. This helps our agency, partners, and the public plan for and address emerging health threats, and to promote healthy lifestyles through awareness, education, programs and community development.

We strive to bring people and resources together. To help address issues facing our communities, we have established a growing network of partners, including area hospitals, first responders, schools, businesses, community- and faith-based organizations and elected officials.
